Pick-up from your hotel in Diani Beach and drive towards Shimba Hills National Reserve. The drive takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your location.
Arrive at Shimba Hills National Reserve and start your game drive. The reserve is known for its population of sable antelope, one of the few places in Kenya where they can be seen. You’ll also have the chance to spot elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and various bird species.Continue exploring the reserve and drive to the Sheldrick Falls trailhead. From here, you’ll take a guided nature walk through the forest to the waterfall. The walk takes about 30 minutes each way, and the trail is moderately challenging, winding through the lush coastal rainforest.
Arrive at Sheldrick Falls, a beautiful 25-meter waterfall where you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and take photos. The pool at the base of the falls is a great spot to cool off if you’re up for a quick swim. Walk back to your vehicle and continue your game drive through the reserve. Shimba Hills offers stunning views of rolling hills and forests, with occasional sightings of wildlife along the way.
Head to the Shimba Hills Lodge for lunch. The lodge is set in a forested area within the reserve and provides a serene atmosphere with opportunities to spot animals from the dining area. After lunch, take some time to relax at the lodge or explore the surrounding nature trails.
Depart the lodge for a final game drive or visit the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary nearby, depending on your interest. The sanctuary is a community-based conservation area that provides a corridor for elephants migrating between Shimba Hills and the surrounding areas.Begin your drive back to Diani Beach. Enjoy the scenic route as you leave the reserve and descend towards the coast.
